KUANTAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has become the choice university of students from China pursuing postgraduate, masters and doctors degrees.This was derived following the enrolment of 43 students from China this month.

UMP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim said the students comprising 37 men and six women would attend a preparatory English programme for six months.

It will enable them to be competent and confident in English before they continue in their chosen faculties.

Dr Daing said the programme was to expose foreign students to Malaysian culture.

He said that several visits had been made to countries such as Australia, India and Africa to broaden the UMP’s network of higher education institutes.

Meanwhile, Dr Daing commended the success of UMP researchers at the Seoul International Invention Fair recently.

He said the Korean President’s Special Award was won through the research of Abdul Syukur Abdul Razak from the Local Engineering and Local Resources Faculty of UMP.

Abdul Syukur’s research on Integration of Rainwater and Groundwater Harvest-ing in Rural Areas earned him a gold medal.

UMP researchers bagged two gold medals, four silvers and a bronze in the competition.
